Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Boitsoff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrej Kavelin! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kavelin throws a series of punches but Boitsoff avoids them all with ease. Boitsoff misses with an uppercut. Kavelin leaves Boitsoff with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Kavelin lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
It looks like Dmitry Boitsoff has been cut. Jab, jab by Kavelin - just one landing. Boitsoff has a takedown stuffed. Boitsoff drops his hands momentarily and Kavelin takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kavelin lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kavelin. Boitsoff shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kavelin pinned against the cage. Kavelin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dmitry Boitsoff. That's going to take a lot out of him. No luck with that takedown attempt from Boitsoff. Kavelin throws a solid leg kick but Boitsoff takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kavelin.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kavelin closes the distance and clinches. Boitsoff is trying to pull guard but Kavelin turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Boitsoff has Kavelin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Boitsoff pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kavelin tumbling to the mat - Boitsoff dives into Kavelin's guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Kavelin looking for a sweep. Not yet Kavelin, not yet. Boitsoff passes easily into side control. Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kavelin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Kavelin tries to roll over but Boitsoff keeps him under control. Kavelin is in trouble now - Boitsoff has advanced to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boitsoff is working for a guillotine from mount but Kavelin frees his head quite easily.
Boitsoff avoids the attempt from Kavelin to control. Boitsoff working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Kavelin turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Boitsoff off and cradles Kavelin's limp body as Boitsoff celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Dmitry Boitsoff! An out of breath Dmitry Boitsoff thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
