PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Great Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes into the arena with Mongol blaring out of the sound system. Great Smith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Great Smith!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith moves into the clinch.
Smith goes for a takedown attempt but Khan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Smith feints and as Khan raises his hands in defense, Smith changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Khan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Khan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Khan is keeping the position.
Khan is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Smith throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Khan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Khan is keeping the position.
Khan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Khan has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Smith passes Khan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Khan's head.
Khan has his hands clasped together around Smith's back. He's all about the action.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Khan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Khan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Smith is trying for a kimura here. Khan looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Smith wins by kimura!
