Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve West! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Herman! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! West misses with a series of wild punches.
West takes one on the button. West tries to clinch up. Herman throws the left hand but West avoids the punch easily. Herman scores with a sloppy right hand. West should have avoided that one. Herman throws a hook but West blocks it. West rushes Herman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. West prevents a takedown attempt there.
West has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head and Herman goes down! West dives on top of him - Herman manages to get guard.
Herman is rocked!
It looks like Chris Herman has been cut. Herman had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. West is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Herman Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take West's back instead. Herman is still in real trouble! Can West finish him? Herman trying to control momentarily.
Herman seems to have recovered his senses. West covering up well under a series of strikes from Herman.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herman wants to control the position but West frees himself and scrambles - Herman manages to regain control in side control.
West is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Herman wants to lay and pray for a moment but West keeps working. Herman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Herman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Herman trying to control the position but West is working away.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Herman throws a big shot that misses. Herman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Herman throws a series of punches but West avoids them all with ease. West rushes Herman and presses him up against the cage. West landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Herman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. A short right from West on the inside. West has the Thai plumb, controlling the head nicely. He loads up with a big knee to the head and Herman goes down! West pounces into side control - this one could be over soon!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Herman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but West wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. West wants to stand but Herman has his arm trapped.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herman is trying to get back to half guard. West decides to stand back up. West steps back and let's Herman get back to his feet. A head kick misses from West. West ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Herman moves away. The fight moves into the clinch position. West scores with a knee to the head.

West walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Steve West is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. West displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Herman throws out the jab. Herman works the jab nicely. West wants to slow Herman down by chopping away at his legs. Herman tries to bum rush West with a series of wild strikes but West uses good footwork to avoid the assault. West throws and low kick but Herman moves out of range easily. Herman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? West is fending him off so far but Herman persists. Nope, West circles away and we're back to standing. Herman avoids the head kick by West.
West tries to clinch up but Herman circles away and keeps his distance. Thud! ouch! good body kick from West - that will leave a mark!
