The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gals closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mortis quickly recovers to half guard.
Mortis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gals is working away from the top position though.

Gals is stalling here. Mortis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Gals seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mortis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Gals is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mortis asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Gals tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mortis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gals has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mortis stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Gals misses with a takedown attempt - Mortis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Gals takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gals changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mortis tries to avoid it but Gals manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mortis to the ground. Mortis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Facaloto Gals. That's going to take a lot out of him.
