Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hugh Matthews! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Coleman! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coleman tries to clinch up and Coleman is countered with a crisp right hand from Matthews that sends him to the canvas! Matthews follows him to the mat into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Coleman is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Matthews asserts his dominance and retains side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matthews is trying to get an arm triangle but Coleman is defending well. Coleman on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Coleman wants to get back to his feet. Matthews happy to just control the position for now. Matthews working the ground and pound from side control. Coleman is trying to buck Matthews off.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matthews lands a decent elbow from side control. Matthews working the head with strikes. Matthews in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Coleman is rocked! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Coleman can do anything to dispel that myth. Matthews scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Coleman is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Matthews can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
