Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Buddy Webster! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Cormeir! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cormeir misses with a takedown attempt - Webster sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Webster keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Webster shoots for a double leg takedown but Cormeir sprawls well. He's pushed Webster's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Cormeir closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Webster's guard. Webster had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cormeir defends it easily. Webster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cormeir doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cormeir manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Webster throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Webster is on top in guard.
Cormeir keeping moving, preventing Webster from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Webster drops back looking for a leg! Cormeir is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cormeir manages to kick Webster off! Webster jumps back into Cormeir's guard. Webster throws a big elbow that misses. Webster looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Cormeir wants to sweep here but Webster controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Webster wants to control from the top but Cormeir keeps moving. Webster working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Webster throws a strike but Cormeir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Cormeir controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Webster is looking for a triangle but Cormeir pushes his legs off easily.
Webster is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Webster is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Cormeir is trying to get back to full guard. Cormeir blocking the ground and pound attempt from Webster. Webster uses his free foot to push down on Cormeir's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cormeir. Webster sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Webster looking to isolate an arm here. Cormeir doesn't see it coming and as Webster extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Webster!
