PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane Doby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Lenny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doby comes to the cage accompanied by International Players Anthem. Mick Lenny told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Doby! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
22 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mick Lenny! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lenny wants to slow Doby down by chopping away at his legs. Doby throws a series of punches but Lenny avoids them all with ease. Lenny throws a good cross that connects.
Lenny stuffs the takedown attempt from Doby. Doby gets slowly back to his feet. Lenny rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Doby counters with a lovely straight right hand! No luck for Doby with that takedown attempt. The fighters circle momentarily. Doby darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Doby misses with a leg kick and Lenny counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Doby thinking. Doby lands a nice shot that snaps Lenny's head back.
Lenny throws an overhand right that lands on Doby's shoulder, as Doby tries to avoid the shot. A slapping leg kick lands for Lenny.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! An inside leg kick from Doby misses. Lenny throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Lenny fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Doby. Lenny on the wrong end of a nice hook. Lenny thuds his right hand into Doby's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Lenny misses with a hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Doby shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lenny as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Doby. That's going to take a lot out of him. Doby throws a series of strikes that have Lenny backpedaling.
Jab, jab by Doby - just one landing. Lenny misses the shot to the body. Lenny connects with a single shot there. Doby slips under a jab from Lenny. Lenny throws a right and a left that both miss. Lenny swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Doby swings away with a leg kick that misses. Doby moves out of range of the strikes. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Doby!
Lenny looks to throw the jab but Doby is out of range. Mick Lenny is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Doby shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lenny as he avoids it easily. Lenny stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Doby.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Horrible takedown by Doby or perhaps it was just good defense by Lenny which made him look bad. Doby is looking to clinch. Doby takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Doby feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Lenny preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Lenny wants to control but Doby passes easily into half guard.
Doby is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lenny has managed to free his arm - good work. Lenny is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Doby not doing much here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Doby is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Lenny still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Lenny has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Lenny gets to mount! Doby was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Doby really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Doby tries to hold on but Lenny postures up. Doby keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Lenny tries to control but Doby wriggling away. Doby is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Lenny controlling his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Shane Doby will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Doby moves out of range as Lenny strikes. Lenny drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Doby throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lenny's waist but Lenny gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Doby off to one side. Mick Lenny seems to be getting the better of the standup. Good shot there by Lenny. Lenny lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Doby feints and as Lenny raises his hands in defense, Doby changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Doby won't allow Lenny to sweep him here. Lenny keeping moving, preventing Doby from controlling successfully. Lenny controlling the position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Doby trying to control but Lenny is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Doby throws a shot to the body.
Doby closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lenny circles away. Lenny looks to land a combination. Doby sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
It looks like Shane Doby has been cut. Doby fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Doby. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lenny lands with a good body shot. Doby shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Doby shoots in for a takedown but Lenny shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Lenny lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. This has been an exciting period of action! Lenny lands with a cross. A good leg kick by Lenny.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Doby takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Doby is rocked! Doby takes a shot right to the bread basket. Doby staying out of range there. Lenny is looking to slow Doby down with leg kicks. Lenny feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Doby sprawling to the canvas! Doby rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Lenny finish him?!
Oh Doby is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Lenny lands a leg kick that knocks Doby off balance momentarily. Lenny measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Doby! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Mick Lenny! Our winner, Mick Lenny, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
