PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orlando Delgado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Delgado has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Anderson Silva Jr has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Orlando Delgado!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva Jr tries for a takedown but Delgado sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Silva Jr rushes Delgado and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Delgado has Silva Jr pressed against the cage, preventing Silva Jr from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Silva Jr pulls Delgado into guard.

Silva Jr looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Delgado postures up.

Silva Jr has his feet on Delgado's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Silva Jr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Silva Jr is in a horrible position here. Delgado smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Delgado has control of Silva Jr's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Silva Jr regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Delgado postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva Jr looks a forlorn figure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva Jr takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Delgado jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva Jr manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Silva Jr takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Delgado thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Delgado shoots in for a double leg but Silva Jr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Silva Jr is trying hard to land a takedown here. Delgado sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck for Delgado with that takedown attempt.
Delgado has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Delgado is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Silva Jr defends well.

Silva Jr has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Delgado's body.
Delgado tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Delgado is trying to pull guard but Silva Jr has him pressed against the cage.

Silva Jr pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Silva Jr throws a leg kick which misses Delgado's front leg but catches the back leg as Delgado tries to avoid it.
Nice takedown defense from Delgado. No joy for Silva Jr on that attempt.

and Silva Jr counters with a nice double leg into side control. Delgado won't be happy with that.

Delgado tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva Jr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Silva Jr stands up and beckons Delgado to his feet.
A jab from Silva Jr finds it's way through Delgado's defenses.
Silva Jr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Delgado as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Silva Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Delgado misses with a two punch combination.
Delgado shoots for a takedown but Silva Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Silva Jr fails with an attempt to clinch.
Delgado lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Silva Jr circles away quickly and effectively.

Silva Jr feints and as Delgado raises his hands in defense, Silva Jr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silva Jr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Silva Jr wants to control from the top but Delgado keeps moving.

Delgado is looking for a triangle here but Silva Jr uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Well Silva Jr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
