Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Kennedy!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Cotto. No joy for Kennedy on that attempt.
Kennedy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cotto pinned against the cage. Cotto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kennedy tries to close the distance and clinch but Cotto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cotto avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cotto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cotto wants it to stay on the feet.
Miguel Cotto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Kennedy.
Cotto misses with a two punch combination.
Cotto displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kennedy.

Kennedy gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Cotto tries to throw a body punch but Kennedy avoids it by throwing Cotto back against the cage.
Cotto can't find room to land a body shot as Kennedy controls the action.

Kennedy manages to pull guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kennedy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cotto defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kennedy has his foot on Cotto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cotto works his way back into a safe position though.

Cotto avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Kennedy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cotto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Cotto is looking to stand up but Kennedy won't let him.

Kennedy has a closed guard, preventing Cotto from standing up.

Cotto is posturing up here but Kennedy has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Cotto tries to roll out but it's too tight and Cotto has to tap! Slick submission there by Kennedy!
