PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Natawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Ray Miranda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Ray Miranda told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Natawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Ray Miranda!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Natawa throws a head kick that misses.
Natawa throws a lazy right hand but Miranda sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Miranda wants to slow Natawa down by chopping away at his legs.
No joy there for Natawa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Miranda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Natawa as he jumps to the side.

Miranda clinches.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Natawa.
Miranda fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Miranda fails to pull guard.
Miranda is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Natawa to keep the fight standing.
Chuck Natawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Ray Miranda.
Miranda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Natawa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Miranda looks for the body kick but Natawa saw that one coming.

Natawa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Miranda paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Natawa drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Natawa is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Natawa trying to control but Miranda is working from the bottom.
Natawa wants to stand and escape but instead Miranda has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Miranda looking to sit in guard and control but Natawa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Natawa stays in close to Miranda's body and controls the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Natawa stands up and waves to Miranda to follow him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Natawa is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Miranda wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Natawa has him pressed against the cage.

Natawa gets underhooks to prevent Miranda's takedown attempt.

Natawa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Natawa tries to clinch but Miranda moves out of range.

Miranda pushes Natawa up against the cage in a clinch.
Miranda is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Natawa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Natawa will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Miranda up against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Miranda takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Miranda breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Natawa wants to clinch

and Miranda counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Miranda.
Natawa has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Miranda wants a takedown.

Natawa breaks from the clinch.
Natawa is looking to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice straight punches there by Natawa. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Natawa.
A telegraphed right hand from Natawa misses the target.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Natawa is defended easily by Miranda.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Miranda tries to keep at a distance but Natawa has taken the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Natawa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chuck Natawa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Natawa gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Natawa's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Natawa is trying to maintain a safe position but Miranda gets an underhook and turns Natawa into the cage.
Natawa gets underhooks to prevent Miranda's takedown attempt.
Natawa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Natawa will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Miranda up against the cage.

Miranda has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Natawa uses from the top position.

Miranda lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Natawa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Miranda wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Miranda is looking to stand up but Natawa isn't so interested in that idea.

Miranda stands up and beckons Natawa to his feet.

Natawa looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Natawa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miranda on the ground.

Natawa moves into range and clinches up with Miranda.
A frustrated look appears on Miranda's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Miranda jumps guard but Natawa stands there with Miranda around his waist. Miranda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Miranda is trying to pull guard but Natawa turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Natawa wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Natawa tries to clinch there but Miranda circles away.
Natawa misses with a series of wild punches.

and Miranda decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Natawa's guard.

Miranda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Miranda gets to his feet. Natawa looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Miranda wants to get back to striking at distance but Natawa won't allow it.

Natawa gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Miranda.

Miranda gets control of Natawa's arms and successfully pulls guard. Miranda will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Miranda takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Natawa tries to stand but Miranda is controlling from the bottom.
Natawa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miranda swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Miranda has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Natawa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Miranda wants to stand up but Natawa is controlling him.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Natawa forces his way into half guard.
Natawa content to control rather than advance.
Chuck Natawa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Natawa seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Miranda for as long as he can get away with.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Johnny Ray Miranda.
Well Natawa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
