The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez fails with the takedown
and Hillis counters by clinching up.
Melendez tries to pull guard but Hillis holds him up against the cage and eventually Melendez drops back down to his feet.
Melendez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hillis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hillis drives through and clinches with Melendez against the cage.

Melendez wants a takedown.
Peyton Hillis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Melendez.
Melendez lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Hillis kicks off Melendez and gets to his feet.
Melendez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hillis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Melendez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hillis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Melendez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hillis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Melendez fails with the takedown
and Hillis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Damien Melendez has been cut.
Melendez looks winded!
Melendez tries for a takedown but Hillis circles away easily
letting Hillis counter with a right hand.
Damien Melendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hillis clinches up with Melendez and pushes him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hillis breaks the clinch.

Melendez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Hillis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hillis scores with a jab.
Melendez fails with the takedown
and Hillis counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Melendez has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

A very excited looking Peyton Hillis rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
