PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paddy Cheechoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paddy Cheechoo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cheechoo.
Cheechoo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jackson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jackson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Jackson misses with a double jab
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Jackson moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cheechoo's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Jackson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jackson, as that shot connected.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cheechoo.

Cheechoo shoots in for a double leg but Jackson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jackson's corner calls for a 1-2. Jackson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cheechoo is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Jackson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Jackson looks up at the clock and then as Cheechoo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jackson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cheechoo takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Jackson cracks Cheechoo with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Cheechoo takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Jackson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cheechoo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jackson cracks Cheechoo with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Cheechoo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Cheechoo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jackson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Jackson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jackson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jackson.
Jackson closes the distance and lands a one-two.


Cheechoo is rocked!

Jackson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Oh Cheechoo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ground and pound from Jackson.
Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cheechoo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cheechoo seems to have got his legs back now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cheechoo is pushing down on Jackson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jackson is fighting to maintain full guard but Cheechoo has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jackson is positioning himself well to prevent Cheechoo advancing to mount.

Cheechoo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Jackson controls his leg.

Jackson is looking to control Cheechoo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jackson avoid being mounted?
Jackson wants to improve his position but Cheechoo is controlling well.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cheechoo stalling away here and it's allowed Jackson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Jackson is pulling down on Cheechoo's head. It's preventing any offense from Cheechoo, at least for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cheechoo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cheechoo has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cheechoo there as he acknowledges the shot.
Jackson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Cheechoo wants to clinch up but Jackson keeps it at a distance.
