Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frank Barba! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cowboy Henry! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry throws a jab when Barba was well out of range. Barba looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Henry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Barba. Barba is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Barba stops Henry from getting back to his feet.
Barba throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Barba is trying to control. Henry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Barba throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Barba not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Barba seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Henry does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Barba working the head and body with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry tries to roll over but Barba keeps him under control. Barba is working for a kimura but Henry is defending it quite comfortably.
Henry wants to get back to his feet. Barba is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Henry has managed to free his arm - good work. Barba not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Barba manages to move to mount!
Barba working for a guillotine from mount but Henry is in no mood to give up. Barba lands a big shot there that rocks Henry but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Barba goes for an armbar but Henry turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Henry. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Henry passes into half guard. Barba works his way to full guard. Good work. Henry lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henry trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Henry lands a couple of decent looking shots. Henry throws an elbow that misses. Barba uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Henry's guard. Nice move by Barba! Barba trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Barba trying to control but Henry is working from the bottom. Barba throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Barba postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Henry is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Barba, into his guard. Henry stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Barba throws up his legs and catches Henry in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Henry tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Barba! That came out of nowhere!
