Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ed Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves shoots in but no luck this time. Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Alves misses with the combination.
Alves takes a kick to the side of the head. Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet. A punch lands to the side of Alves 's head but he takes it in his stride. Silva misses with a few strikes there.
Alves scores a takedown into full mount! Alves controlling from the full mount. Alves is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Silva can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves looking to control and managing it successfully. Silva is trying to escape the mount.
Alves controlling the pace for now. Alves lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Silva hang on?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves scoring with strikes but Silva is staying in there. Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Alves is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Silva has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Silva! Alves trying to strike off his back.
Alves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Silva is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Alves has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Silva is looking to defend but Alves has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Silva! Alves pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Silva taps out and this one is all over!
