PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hernando Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Krush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krush is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Pusha T- Pain. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hernando Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Krush!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Krush pushes Cortez up against the cage in a clinch.

Krush pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Krush enables Cortez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Krush manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Krush wants to stand up but Cortez is controlling him.

Cortez stands up and waves to Krush to follow him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cortez.
No luck for Cortez with that takedown attempt.

Krush gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Krush wants to get back to striking at distance but Cortez won't allow it.
Cortez wants to take the fight to the mat but Krush manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Cortez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Krush can't fight it off and eventually Cortez manages to take the fight to the floor. Krush looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Krush has his foot on Cortez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cortez works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hernando Cortez.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Krush sprawls well. Krush wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cortez gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Krush has his feet on Cortez's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Hernando Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Krush throws a right and a left that both miss.
Krush tries a head kick but it misses.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Krush but Krush pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Cortez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Krush's guard.

Cortez prevents Krush from getting back to his feet.

Krush working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cortez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cortez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cortez stands and throws Krush's legs to the side, diving into side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Krush pushes Cortez away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cortez gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cortez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Krush's shoulder. That is not cool.
Krush is pushing Cortez's head away, looking to escape. Cortez manages to hold on to the position though.

Krush is trying to improve his position.

Cortez decides to stand back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cortez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Krush tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cortez shoots for a takedown but Krush saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Cortez darts in and clinches Krush up against the cage.
Cortez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Krush's efforts to push away.

Cortez gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Krush stuffs the takedown attempt from Cortez. Cortez gets slowly back to his feet.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Krush but Krush pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Krush closes the distance and pushes Cortez back into the cage.

Cortez has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Krush clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

I would not like to be Krush right now.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Krush tries to escape but Cortez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Cortez has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Krush's body.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cortez lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
