Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Karl Spatz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Spatz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Gary Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spatz chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Thomas has taken the fight to the clinch.
Spatz scores with a shot to the side of Thomas's head.

Spatz decides to pull guard.
Thomas missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Spatz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Thomas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Spatz connects with a nice short shot to Thomas's temple.

Spatz looks to land a strike but Thomas avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Spatz's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spatz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Spatz wants to pass the guard but Thomas is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Spatz dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Spatz gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Spatz goes for a takedown attempt but Thomas pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Spatz wants to land a leg kick but Thomas is out of range.
Thomas connects with a body shot that sends Spatz's belly button to the back.
Thomas on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Thomas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Spatz.
Thomas takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Spatz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Spatz connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Spatz throws a sloppy head kick and Thomas moves out of range easily.
Karl Spatz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thomas scores a takedown into full mount!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Spatz is in all sorts of trouble here.

Thomas lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Thomas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Spatz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Spatz works his way to full guard. Good work.

Spatz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Spatz has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Thomas should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Spatz has tightened it up now! Thomas should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
