The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutger tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lytle manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lytle punishes Rutger's body with a nice straight punch.
Lytle stuns Rutger with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Lytle just misses with a punch to the body.
Rutger forces Lytle back against the cage and clinches.
Lytle lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Lytle is trying to force a seperation but Rutger has the dominant position.
Lytle wants to get back to striking at distance but Rutger won't allow it.
Lytle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James Lytle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lytle misses with a two punch combination.
Lytle cracks Rutger with a right hand to the side of the head.
It looks like Russ Rutger has been cut.
Lytle rushes Rutger and presses him up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rutger lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Rutger.
Lytle doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Rutger struggles to land a body shot inside as Lytle controls his hands.
Lytle has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Rutger is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Rutger working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Lytle tries to circle away but Rutger has him pinned against the cage.

Lytle is trying to break the clinch but Rutger is controlling him.

Rutger throws a sloppy head kick and Lytle moves out of range easily.
Lytle takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Lytle throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rutger lands with a nice body punch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rutger, right into the meat.
Lytle tries to clinch but Rutger moves out of range.
Rutger throws a hook but Lytle blocks it.
Lytle misses with a lunging right hand
and Rutger counters with a nice leg kick.
Lytle thows a body shot but no joy.
Lytle moves out of range of the body kick from Rutger.
Lytle misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A combination from Lytle does no damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Left hook, right uppercut from Lytle.
Rutger feints and then cracks Lytle's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Lytle down.
Rutger slips a jab from Lytle.
Rutger scores with a crisp jab that stopped Lytle in his tracks.
Rutger misses with a head kick.
Rutger thuds his right hand into Lytle's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Lytle takes the fight into the clinch.
Lytle gets through Rutger's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Rutger scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Rutger breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rutger scores with a hook to the body. Lytle takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Lytle fails to land with a series of punches.
Rutger digs a good hook to Lytle's body.
Lytle is breathing heavily.
Rutger dips to his left and cracks Lytle with an uppercut!
Lytle gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Rutger counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Rutger looks at the referee who does nothing so Rutger lands a crushing right that sends Lytle to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Russ Rutger!
A pretty intense looking Russ Rutger took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
