PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ray Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zero comes to the cage accompanied by Fozzy's "Shine Forever". Jones has chosen Mr. Jones as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Zero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Jones! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zero takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Zero misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jones shoots in but no luck this time. Zero lands a two punch combo.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zero sprawls well. Zero wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. Zero looks for a takedown but Jones sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Zero. That's going to take a lot out of him. Zero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Zero closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Jones wants to stand and escape but Zero is having none of it. Zero slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Zero decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Jones scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. A head kick from Jones lands but Zero takes it in his stride. Jones looks winded! Jones takes a body punch but keeps moving. Zero gets a takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Zero not landing any meaningful shots this time. Well, if Zero is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Zero slips a nice elbow through Jones's hands, connecting with Jones's forehead. Zero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well, if Zero is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Zero thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Zero working over Jones with some ground and pound. Jones looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Jones won't allow Zero to pass to mount. Zero drops an elbow to the side of Jones's head. Zero stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Jones fails in his attempt to clinch. Zero shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side. Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Zero manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. Zero fails with a takedown attempt. Horrible takedown by Zero or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad. Jones misses with a wild body shot. Zero shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Jones tries to sprawl but Zero drives through with a takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zero uses his free foot to push down on Jones's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jones. Zero breaks from Jones's wrist control and lands an elbow. Zero has control of Jones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jones regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zero landing shots from mount. Jones tries to improve his position but Zero has taken his back! Zero has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Jones tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Zero pushes Jones away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ray Zero! During a confident post fight interview, Ray Zero thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
