Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akekae Pokaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikio Okita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Akekae Pokaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikio Okita!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pokaku tries to bum rush Okita with a series of wild strikes but Okita uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Pokaku goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Okita bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Pokaku moves into range and clinches up with Okita.
Okita gets underhooks to prevent Pokaku's takedown attempt.
Okita blocks an uppercut.
Pokaku misses with an elbow strike.
A frustrated look appears on Okita's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Okita blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pokaku misses with some punches.

Okita breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Okita swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Okita steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pokaku.
Okita uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pokaku.
Okita thows a body shot but no joy.
Okita throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pokaku stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nice shot lands for Pokaku.
Okita scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Okita misses with a hook to the body
and Pokaku counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Pokaku ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Okita takes a jab right on the kisser.

Okita is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Pokaku rather than just go for the knockout.

Akekae Pokaku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pokaku thuds his right hand into Okita's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Pokaku pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Okita uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pokaku.

Pokaku has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Okita finds it's way round the side to connect with Pokaku's head.
Pokaku throws a poor cross that misses
and Okita counters with a nice uppercut.
Pokaku blocks a jab.
Pokaku throws a wild body kick that Okita sees coming a mile off.
Pokaku bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Okita's head.
Okita looks to throw the jab but Pokaku is out of range.

Okita shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pokaku napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Pokaku wants to control but Okita postures up.

Okita tries to move into full mount but can't pass Pokaku's legs.
Okita wants to control but Pokaku is keeping him busy.
Okita working the ground and pound but Pokaku is defending the strikes.
Pokaku gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Pokaku is trying to stand up here but Okita is controlling him well.
Okita uses his free foot to push down on Pokaku's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pokaku.

Okita looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Pokaku wants to control but Okita is having none of it.

Okita pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Pokaku tries to hold on but Okita pushes him away.
Pokaku working to try and regain half guard.
Okita wants to control the pace but Pokaku is squirming around nicely.

Pokaku trying to control the hands but Okita breaks the grip.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Okita's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
What can Pokaku do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Pokaku is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pokaku rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mikio Okita will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice straight punches there by Pokaku. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Pokaku.
Pokaku will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Pokaku throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Okita takes one to the chin there.
Okita fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pokaku tries to clinch but Okita is having none of it.
A big left from Pokaku misses.
Pokaku misses with a lunging right hand
and Okita counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Okita scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pokaku doesn't seem bothered though.
Okita takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Pokaku lands a head shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Okita. Pokaku does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pokaku fakes the leg kick and cracks Okita in the body.
Okita uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pokaku.
Pokaku tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pokaku loads up on a big right hand but Okita slips the punch.

Pokaku leaves Okita with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Pokaku gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Okita to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Okita loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Okita slips nicely into half guard.
Pokaku wants to improve his position but Okita is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Okita is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pokaku is just riding it out for now. Okita eventually gives up the hold.

Pokaku manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Okita manages to get himself to full guard.

Okita is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Pokaku has his hands clasped together but Okita extends an breaks Pokaku's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Okita.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mikio Okita!
After winning the bout, Mikio Okita thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
