PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sagan Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Serzh Kavershyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kavershyan has chosen Hayastan Sirel as his entrance music. Serzh Kavershyan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sagan Tyson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Serzh Kavershyan!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyson wants to clinch but Kavershyan slips to the side

and Kavershyan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tyson!
Kavershyan content just to control the position here.
Tyson avoids a series of strikes thrown by Kavershyan.
Tyson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kavershyan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tyson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kavershyan landing strikes from the mount and Tyson is in trouble!


It looks like Sagan Tyson has been cut.
Tyson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tyson tries to get out of the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kavershyan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kavershyan wants to control the pace but Tyson is squirming around nicely.
Tyson tries to reverse the position but Kavershyan maintains control.

Tyson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kavershyan content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kavershyan is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Tyson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Kavershyan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Tyson gets full guard.

Tyson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kavershyan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kavershyan trying to control but Tyson is working from the bottom.

Tyson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kavershyan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tyson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kavershyan is aware though and is defending well.

Tyson keeping moving, preventing Kavershyan from controlling successfully.

Kavershyan has gone for a leg lock! Tyson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kavershyan's guard.
Tyson postures up in Kavershyan's guard and throws a big left but Kavershyan blocks it.
Tyson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kavershyan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tyson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kavershyan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Kavershyan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kavershyan is pulling down on Tyson's head. It's preventing any offense from Tyson, at least for the moment.
Tyson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kavershyan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tyson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kavershyan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tyson throws a big right hand that misses.
Tyson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Serzh Kavershyan dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Sagan Tyson's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kavershyan closes the distance and clinches up with Tyson, looking for a takedown. Kavershyan pushes Tyson against the cage but Tyson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tyson dodges the punch combination from Kavershyan.
Kavershyan slaps away a takedown attempt from Tyson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kavershyan shoots in and drives through. Tyson sprawls well.

Kavershyan pushes Tyson up against the cage in a clinch.

Tyson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tyson fails to land the takedown.
Tyson leaves Kavershyan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sagan Tyson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Serzh Kavershyan.
Tyson misses with a wild combination.

Kavershyan closes the distance and clinches.

Kavershyan gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Tyson manages to get to full guard.
Tyson is trying to control the position but Kavershyan postures up.
Kavershyan trying to control but Tyson is working from the bottom.
Kavershyan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tyson working for a triangle but Kavershyan defends it easily.

Tyson has his foot on Kavershyan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kavershyan works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tyson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kavershyan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Serzh Kavershyan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Kavershyan wants to clinch.
Sagan Tyson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tyson.
Kavershyan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tyson avoids it really well and circles away.

and Kavershyan counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Tyson looking for a sweep. Not yet Tyson, not yet.
Kavershyan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tyson is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Tyson is pushing down on Kavershyan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kavershyan is fighting to maintain full guard but Tyson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Tyson is trying to control. Kavershyan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Tyson works his way into side control.
The ground and pound from Tyson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Tyson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Kavershyan is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tyson is controlling him well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kavershyan tries to control but Tyson manages to take his back.

Tyson is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Kavershyan with him. Kavershyan is trying to defend but Tyson has an arm under the chin now! Kavershyan grimaces and is forced to tap out!
