PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Phil Watermelon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Tebo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Phil Watermelon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Phil Watermelon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kurt Tebo!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tebo swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Tebo tries to bum rush Watermelon with a series of wild strikes but Watermelon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Tebo clinches with his opponent.
Watermelon keeps control of Tebo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Watermelon is trying to pull guard but Tebo has him pressed against the cage.
Watermelon tries for a takedown but Tebo manages to get underhooks.
Tebo is looking to break free of the clinch but Watermelon has double underhooks.
Watermelon dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Tebo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watermelon doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Tebo counters with a one-two to the body.

Tebo throws a wild body kick that Watermelon sees coming a mile off.

Tebo is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Watermelon jumps into side control!
Watermelon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Watermelon has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tebo!
Tebo wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Watermelon.

Watermelon jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tebo manages to avoid the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tebo is looking to reverse the position.

Watermelon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Watermelon wants to control but Tebo is keeping him busy.
Tebo manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tebo is refusing to be controlled, as Watermelon sits in half guard.

Watermelon seems to be looking for submissions.
Watermelon controlling the pace.

Tebo tries to get to full guard but Watermelon has control of the leg.

Watermelon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tebo is just riding it out for now. Watermelon eventually gives up the hold.

Watermelon is trying to work for a kimura but Tebo is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tebo tries to get to full guard but Watermelon has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No joy there for Tebo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Phil Watermelon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Watermelon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tebo tries to avoid it but Watermelon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tebo to the ground. Tebo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tebo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Watermelon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Watermelon fails to land the takedown.

Watermelon shoots in and bounces Tebo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Tebo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watermelon trying to control but Tebo is working from the bottom.
Watermelon is really struggling to control Tebo but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Watermelon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tebo wants to stand but Watermelon is controlling the position.
Watermelon trying to control but Tebo is working from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Watermelon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Watermelon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tebo looking for a sweep. Not yet Tebo, not yet.

Watermelon drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tebo dives on top into guard.

Tebo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Watermelon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tebo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Watermelon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Watermelon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Watermelon!

Watermelon is trying to get an arm triangle but Tebo is defending well.

Watermelon swings around for an armbar but Tebo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Watermelon's guard.
Tebo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Tebo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Watermelon has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Tebo doesn't defend quickly enough and Watermelon has managed to lock this one up! Can Tebo escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Watermelon on a fantastic submission victory.
