Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsuro Sato! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Oquendo! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sato lands a jab to the head.
Oquendo looks to land a combination but Sato avoids it well. Sato scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Oquendo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sato walks into a stiff left hand from Oquendo. Oquendo misses with a looping right. Oquendo is looking to score with low kicks. Sato pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Oquendo needs to keep his hands up - Sato had a free shot at his head there. Oquendo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sato sees it coming and avoids it easily. Oquendo lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Sato throws a body kick that misses. Sato tried to score with a low kick but Oquendo checks it. Oquendo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Oquendo throws a series of punches but Sato moves out of range. Sato dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Oquendo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sato swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Oquendo. Oquendo connects with a high kick. Sato tries for a takedown but Oquendo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A big left from Oquendo misses. Sato misses the jab. Sloppy strikes from Oquendo. Those never looked like landing. Oquendo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Oquendo throws a jab but it's blocked by Sato. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sato. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Katsuro Sato. That's going to take a lot out of him. Good shot there by Sato.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Oquendo scores with a kick to the midsection. Sato throws a hook but Oquendo blocks it. A telegraphed right hand from Sato misses the target. Oquendo throws a hook but Sato avoids it easily. Oquendo moves out of range of the body kick from Sato.
Donk. Oquendo catches Sato right on the button with a cross. Oquendo scores with a leg kick.
Sato closes the distance and clinches up with Oquendo, looking for a takedown. Sato pushes Oquendo against the cage but Oquendo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Oquendo throws a solid leg kick but Sato takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Oquendo. Oquendo moves out of range as Sato strikes. Sato with a body punch. A glancing blow. Sato takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Sato lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Jose Oquendo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oquendo gets off balance looking for a body kick and Sato counters with a stiff right hand. Oquendo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oquendo throws a head kick that misses. Sato throws a leg kick but Oquendo sees it coming and checks it nicely. Sato lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Oquendo misses with a low kick as Sato jumps back. Sato on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Oquendo. Oquendo obviously looking to wear him down.
Sato is looking to clinch but Oquendo is avoiding it.
Oquendo looks to land a left hand but Sato moved out of range nicely. Oquendo blocks a head kick by Sato.
Sato drops his hands momentarily and Oquendo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Sato blocks a jab. A lazy body kick from Oquendo and Sato counters with a nice kick to the body. Oquendo checks a leg kick. Sato shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oquendo as he avoids it easily. Sato looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Oquendo! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Sato lands a nice shot to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sato prevents Oquendo from getting the reversal. Oquendo manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Oquendo, under a barage of strikes from Sato.
Sato has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sato throwing shots but Oquendo is blocking nicely. Oquendo keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Sato has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Oquendo defend it? Sato steps over the head and cranks it - Oquendo is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Sato!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Katsuro Sato! A relieved looking Katsuro Sato thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
