PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hagan Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Spanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spanner has chosen Seven Drunken Nights - The Dubliners as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hagan Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mick Spanner!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spanner's waist but Spanner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henry off to one side.

Henry gets tackled into the ropes by Spanner. Spanner maintains the clinch.
Spanner lands an elbow that stopped Henry in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Hagan Henry has been cut.
Henry drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Spanner gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Spanner lands a body punch in the clinch.

Spanner has Henry pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Spanner pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Henry tumbling to the mat - Spanner dives into Henry's guard.
Spanner working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Henry wants to hit a switch here but Spanner passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Henry there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Spanner lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Henry tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Spanner with a couple of short strikes.
Henry takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Spanner is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Henry is surviving well by controlling Spanner's body position as best he can.
Spanner is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Henry can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Henry slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Spanner postures up in Henry's guard and throws a big left but Henry blocks it.

Henry wants to sweep but no luck.
Henry looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Spanner puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Spanner is trying to work for a kimura but Henry is defending well.

Spanner lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Henry is looking to improve his position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Henry is pressing down on Spanner's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Spanner looking to pass the guard.
Spanner working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Henry throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Spanner is working Henry over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Henry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Spanner stands up over Henry, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Spanner won't allow Henry to sweep him here.
Henry will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Henry is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Spanner makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Henry fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hagan Henry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henry swats away the attempt to clinch by Spanner.
Spanner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Henry.

Henry shoots and misses
and Spanner counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Spanner creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Henry's defenses.

Henry is trying to drag Spanner to the mat but Spanner just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
Henry wants a takedown.

Spanner breaks from the clinch.
Spanner wants to clinch up but Henry keeps it at a distance.
Henry jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Spanner tries to clinch but Henry is having none of it.
Spanner moves in looking to clinch but Henry pushes him off.
Spanner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nice sprawl there from Spanner as Henry shoots in.

Spanner moves into range and clinches up with Henry.
Henry fails to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mick Spanner dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hagan Henry's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Spanner lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Spanner working Henry over with strikes.
Spanner scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Henry is trying to get back to full guard.
Henry on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Henry trying to get back to full guard but Spanner takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Spanner is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Henry to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Henry shrugs it off.

Spanner lands a big elbow.
Henry is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Spanner is landing with some decent strikes but Henry is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


Henry is rocked!
Henry is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Oh Henry is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Spanner is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Henry goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Spanner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mick Spanner!
