PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Arkley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Boris Brejcha - Openminded. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricardo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Arkley!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Kavanagh and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gracie tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Arkley takes one to the side of the head.
Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Arkley slips a jab and a cross from Gracie.
Arkley fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Gracie wants to clinch up but Arkley keeps it at a distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Arkley throws a wild body kick that Gracie sees coming a mile off.
Gracie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Arkley defends it nicely.

It looks like Ricardo Gracie has been cut.

Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Arkley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gracie wants to hold on but Arkley pushes him away.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Arkley tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Arkley uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gracie has time to react.
Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Arkley.
Arkley tries to clinch up but Gracie circles away and keeps his distance.

Gracie manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Arkley on his heels. He'll look to pass Arkley's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Arkley is keeping the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Arkley gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Arkley scores with a hook to the body. Gracie takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Gracie tries for a takedown but Arkley sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A close second round but James Arkley will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Arkley stuffs the takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Arkley finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
James Arkley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gracie has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Arkley after a bit of a struggle.

Gracie has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Arkley uses from the top position.

Arkley is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Arkley sizes up Gracie with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Gracie tries to clinch up
and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gracie on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Gracie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Arkley shows good takedown defense.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd cheers as Arkley lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gracie doesn't seem phased though.

Arkley throws a big shot that misses.
Arkley cracks Gracie with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Gracie tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Arkley pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Gracie is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Arkley!
James Arkley seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
