Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Air Canada! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Villia! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Villia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Canada keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Villia scores with a sloppy right hand. Canada should have avoided that one. Canada jabbing away but nothing is landing. Canada lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Canada misses with a double jab
and Villia counters with a left and a right that stings Canada. Villia tries for a takedown but Canada circles away easily and Canada cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Air Canada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Villia. Villia lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Air Canada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Villia tries to clinch there but Canada circles away.
Villia rushes Canada and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Villia is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Canada breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Canada has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Villia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Canada manages to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Villia fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Villia tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Canada counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Villia is rocked! Canada throws a right and a left that both miss. Villia is still on wobbly legs! Can Canada finish him? Canada dances in with a quick combination. Villia is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Canada snaps Villia's head back. Villia stumbles backwards against the cage. Canada steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Villia's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Villia just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Air Canada! A loyal slave to those sponsorship dollars, Air Canada made sure he mentioned MERKIN FIGHTWEAR, along with how happy he was to win his fight.
