PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Apollinarij Bogdanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bogdanov's entrance music is Cowboys from Hell. A fine choice. Paul is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Some Bodies Gonna Get It. Apollinarij Bogdanov has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Apollinarij Bogdanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jackson Paul!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul misses with a two punch combination.

Paul pushes Bogdanov up against the cage in a clinch.
Paul keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bogdanov's efforts to push away.
Paul is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bogdanov is defending well.
Paul has Bogdanov pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bogdanov manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Paul lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Bogdanov backwards.
Bogdanov struggles to land a body shot inside as Paul controls his hands.

Paul decides to pull guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Paul is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bogdanov wants to stand but Paul has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bogdanov wants to control from the top but Paul keeps moving.

Paul is trying to control the position but Bogdanov postures up.
Paul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bogdanov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Paul is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Apollinarij Bogdanov wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Paul tightens his grip and picks Bogdanov up, before dumping him to the ground. Bogdanov manages to land in guard.

Bogdanov wants to stand up but Paul is controlling him.

and Paul counters with a left and a right that stings Bogdanov.
Bogdanov is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Paul throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Bogdanov misses with a straight right.

Paul shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bogdanov's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paul pushes down on Bogdanov's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Paul is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Paul is pressing down on Bogdanov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bogdanov is holding on for now.

Paul is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bogdanov sees it coming and defends easily.
Paul winds up and cracks Bogdanov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Bogdanov has hold of Paul's hands but Paul slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Paul lands a nice short elbow.
Paul winds up and cracks Bogdanov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Bogdanov has hold of Paul's hands but Paul slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Paul looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Paul slips a nice elbow through Bogdanov's hands, connecting with Bogdanov's forehead.
Paul wants to take a breather but Bogdanov is having none of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Paul thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Paul seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Paul working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Paul looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bogdanov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Paul throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bogdanov tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Paul is in Bogdanov's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paul's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Paul lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bogdanov has momentary wrist control but Paul slips an elbow through the middle.

Paul has control of Bogdanov's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bogdanov regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

You get the feeling that Bogdanov really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Paul might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bogdanov kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Paul is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

This has been an exciting period of action!

The referee asks Paul politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Paul prefers to stall for the moment though.
Bogdanov wants to control but Paul postures up.

Paul moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Let's hope that Paul has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Apollinarij Bogdanov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jackson Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Paul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
