Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeremy Striker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricco James! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Striker gets the takedown into side control. James struggling a bit here. James takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Striker stands up and we're back to a striking position. James wants to clinch and Striker moves into the clinch. Striker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Striker has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.
James successfully pulls guard.
James is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Striker with a nice head shot there. Striker tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Striker postures up.
Striker looking to pass the guard. James controls Striker momentarily but Striker frees himself. Striker postures up in James's guard and throws a big left but James blocks it. James keeping moving, preventing Striker from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Striker closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming James to the mat! James manages to get full guard. Striker trying to control but James is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Striker stands up from James's guard - Striker perhaps looking for a knockout. Striker moves out of range as James throws a body kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! James tries to clinch but Striker is having none of it. Striker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches James napping and manages to drive through into side control! Striker controlling the position. Striker is trying to ground and pound but James uses the momentary lack of control by Striker to regain half guard. Striker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for James on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Striker scoring with strikes to the body and head. Striker missing with the ground and pound from half guard. James slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. James manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
James looking to control but Striker is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Striker wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by James.
James misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Striker on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Striker tries to get out of the position. Striker is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position. Striker wants to hold on but James pushes him away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Striker is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. James thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeremy Striker dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Striker takes a shot right to the bread basket. Striker clinches up with James and pushes him back against the cage. Striker has James pressed against the cage, preventing James from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Striker turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Striker manages to end up in side control. James wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Striker stands up. Striker darts in and clinches James up against the cage. James misses with an elbow strike.
Striker successfully pulls guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. James advances to half guard. James wants to free his trapped foot but Striker is holding on for dear life with his legs. James tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Striker trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.
James passes to side control. Striker is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Striker trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Striker is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. James yanks on the arm and Striker is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by James.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ricco James!
