PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Koni Maximus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Lord (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maximus comes to the cage accompanied by Maui Boy. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Koni Maximus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Lord!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Maximus enables Lord to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Maximus manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Lord stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maximus swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lord throwing strikes from guard but Maximus blocks nicely.
Maximus manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Lord is squirming around, avoiding Maximus's attempts to control the action.
Lord wants to control but Maximus is having none of it.
Maximus with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Lord tries to reverse the position but Maximus maintains control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lord can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lord wants to try and get back to his feet.
Lord really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maximus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maximus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lord is looking to escape.
Lord is working to get back to half guard.

Maximus wants to take his opponent's back but Lord doesn't allow it.
Maximus wants to control the pace but Lord is squirming around nicely.

Maximus is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lord can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Maximus throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Lord wants to control but Maximus is having none of it.
Lord really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Maximus wants to finish this one by submission but Lord is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Maximus.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lord is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Maximus fails to advance to Lord's back.
Maximus looking to finish with strikes here!
Lord has given up his back.
Maximus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Maximus controls the position.

Maximus is cranking Lord's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Lord! He's tightened the choke and Lord is tapping out!

Koni Maximus spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
