Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melvin Doomer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Jones enables Doomer to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jones manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Doomer sitting in guard, not really doing much. Jones working for submissions but it's allowed Doomer to get to half guard.
Doomer is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jones! Jones reaches up to try and control the position but Doomer seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Jones rolls and tries to escape and now Doomer has his back!
Doomer slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Doomer gets his hands free as Jones looks to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones wants to escape the position.
Doomer looking for the choke but no joy. Jones looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Doomer working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Doomer looking for the choke from the back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones looking very determined here, making life difficult for Doomer.
Jones defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Doomer's arms. Jones tries to break free.
Doomer is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jones knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jones for a finish. Doomer tightening his grip on Jones, looking for the choke.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Doomer is not going to allow Jones to sit and survive in this position. Jones trying to get back to his feet but Doomer is in full control for now. Jones covers up after that shot from Doomer.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Doomer has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Jones! Can he survive? No! He's out! Doomer gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
