PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Virgil Keller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and How Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keller comes to the cage accompanied by Voyager by Daft Punk. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Virgil Keller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, How Long!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keller lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Keller tries to bum rush Long with a series of wild strikes but Long uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Keller pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Long back to the cage. Keller follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Keller connects with the punch.


Long is rocked!
Long misses with a looping right.
Long is still on wobbly legs! Can Keller finish him?
Keller swings widly with a right hand

and Long counters by clinching up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Long breaks from the clinch.
Long seems to have recovered his senses.

Long drives through and clinches with Keller against the cage.

Long has clasped his hands together around Keller's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Long throws a strike aimed at the side of Keller's head but Keller avoids it well.

Long wants to lay and pray for a moment but Keller keeps working.

Long tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Long has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Long throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Keller wants to control but Long postures up.

Long is trying to get an arm triangle but Keller is defending well.
Long working the strikes but Keller uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Long is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Long throwing shots but Keller is blocking nicely.
Long not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Long trying to control the pace.
Keller avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Long.

Long lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Long looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Long thows a huge punch but Keller dodges it nicely.
Long looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Keller blocking the ground and pound attempt from Long.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Long wants to lay and pray for a moment but Keller keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

How Long dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Keller misses with a hook. Long ducked under it nicely.
Long scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Keller doesn't seem bothered though.
Keller avoids the body shot from Long.
Nice shot lands for Keller.
Keller throws a nice outside leg kick.
Long tries to clinch but Keller is having none of it.

Keller connects with a good right hand that stumbles Long. Long circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Long moves into the clinch.
Long lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Long has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Keller is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Keller is trying to break the clinch but Long is controlling him.

Long manages to break the clinch.
Keller avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Keller misses with a lunging right hand

and Long counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Keller!
Keller avoids a series of strikes thrown by Long.
Keller is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

How Long showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Keller gets tackled into the cage by Long. Long maintains the clinch.
Long wants to take the fight to the mat but Keller manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Long lands a right hand that snaps the head of Keller backwards.

Long is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Keller can't fight it off and eventually Long manages to take the fight to the floor. Keller looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
