Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Calvancante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Mercury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pete Mercury will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mauricio Calvancante! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pete Mercury! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mercury scores with a nice strike. Mercury defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Calvancante. Mercury stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mercury wants it to stay on the feet. Calvancante fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Calvancante. That's going to take a lot out of him. Calvancante shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Mercury counters with a lovely straight right hand! Calvancante fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mercury avoids it really well and circles away. Mercury shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Calvancante eats them both and turns towards Mercury to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Mauricio Calvancante seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Calvancante shoots in looking for a takedown. Mercury tries to sprawl out of it but Calvancante keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mercury manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Mercury with a nice cross.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercury connects with a right hand. Calvancante shakes it off. Calvancante changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mercury tries to avoid it but Calvancante manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mercury to the ground. Mercury escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mercury throws a good cross that connects.
Mercury moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Calvancante slips a straight right by Mercury. Calvancante throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mercury's waist but Mercury gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Calvancante off to one side. Calvancante shoots in and drives through. Mercury sprawls well. A momentary lapse in concentration from Mercury enables Calvancante to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mercury manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Calvancante is breathing heavily. Mercury is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Calvancante pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mercury is keeping the position for now. Calvancante wants to control from the top but Mercury keeps moving. Mercury looking to hit a scissor sweep but Calvancante is one step ahead there. This has been an exciting period of action! Calvancante stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mercury swivels though and keeps the full guard. Calvancante prevents Mercury from getting back to his feet. Mercury is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Calvancante with a poor takedown and Mercury counters with a nice uppercut. Mercury lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Calvancante changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mercury tries to avoid it but Calvancante manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mercury to the ground. Mercury escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mercury scores with a hook to the body. Calvancante takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. A momentary lapse in concentration from Mercury enables Calvancante to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mercury manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Calvancante postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mercury is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Calvancante, into his guard. Calvancante is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mercury trying to control but Calvancante is working from the bottom. Mercury slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Calvancante has momentary wrist control but Mercury slips an elbow through the middle. Mercury must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. This has been an exciting period of action! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mercury accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Calvancante will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mercury content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mercury lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Calvancante is looking for a triangle but Mercury pushes his legs off easily.
Mercury would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mercury distracts Calvancante with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Calvancante is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Mercury dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Calvancante shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mercury defends it nicely. Calvancante is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Calvancante closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mercury circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mercury connects with a looping right hand.
Mercury scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Mercury lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
That's one minute gone in the round. Calvancante shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mercury but Mercury pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Calvancante. That's going to take a lot out of him. Calvancante misses with a takedown and Mercury connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Calvancante with a lazy takedown attempt and Mercury counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Calvancante is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Mercury works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Mercury connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Calvancante momentarily.
Mercury stuns Calvancante with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Calvancante closes the distance and clinches up with Mercury, looking for a takedown. Calvancante pushes Mercury against the cage but Mercury circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mercury works over Calvancante's head and body with a nice combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mercury lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Nice uppercut lands for Mercury. That snapped Calvancante's head back.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Calvancante has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Calvancante there as he acknowledges the shot. Calvancante shoots in for a takedown but Mercury shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Mercury cracks Calvancante with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Mercury tests Calvancante's chin there with a solid looking shot. Mercury connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Calvancante momentarily.

Mercury cracks Calvancante with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Mercury lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Calvancante shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mercury as he jumps to the side. Mercury lands a really nice looking cross but Calvancante seems unphased.
Calvancante moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Calvancante takes a body punch but keeps moving. Horrible takedown by Calvancante or perhaps it was just good defense by Mercury which made him look bad.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mercury scores with a decent looking hook. Calvancante shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mercury as he jumps to the side. Nice body punch from Mercury. Mercury darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Calvancante shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Calvancante takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mercury lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Mercury jabs at Calvancante's body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pete Mercury showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Mercury might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Calvancante shoots in for a takedown but Mercury shows good takedown defense. A lazy left from Mercury finds it's target. Mercury works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Mercury bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mercury jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Donk. Mercury catches Calvancante right on the button with a cross. This has been an exciting period of action! Mercury cracks Calvancante with an open hand slap. Mercury uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Calvancante fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mercury avoids it really well and circles away. Mercury lands the left hand. Mercury bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mercury connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Mercury lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Mercury sizes up Calvancante with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Mauricio Calvancante has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Calvancante with a poor takedown and Mercury connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Mercury scores with the left hand. Calvancante knows he should have avoided that one.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Calvancante takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. A nice combination there by Mercury.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Calvancante wants to clinch up but Mercury keeps it at a distance. Left hook, right uppercut from Mercury. Calvancante shoots for a double leg takedown but Mercury sprawls well. He's pushed Calvancante's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Calvancante takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Calvancante has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mercury finds it's way round the side to connect with Calvancante's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Calvancante gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Mercury scores with a nice right hand.
And that's the end of the fight! Pete Mercury comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Mercury winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
