Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pj Veenstra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jerry Cox! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cox throws a right and a left that both miss. Sloppy strikes from Veenstra. Those never looked like landing. Veenstra turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Cox swings for the body but Veenstra moves out of range.
A good leg kick by Veenstra. Cox jabbing away but nothing is landing. Cox takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Cox misses with a wild body shot. Danga de danga de dang - Cox scores with a four punch combination! Cox looks to score with a jab to the body but Veenstra is just out of range. Veenstra slips under a jab from Cox. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cox ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Veenstra moves away from the strike by Cox. Veenstra fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Veenstra dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Cox looks winded! Veenstra swinging wildly here.
Cox takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Veenstra closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cox is looking for a sweep. Veenstra looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Veenstra throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Veenstra goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cox rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Veenstra's guard! Nice work there by Cox! Veenstra is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cox defends well. Veenstra has his foot on Cox's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cox works his way back into a safe position though. Veenstra might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Veenstra looking to control.

Cox prevents Veenstra from improving his position. Veenstra is pressing down on Cox's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Veenstra is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Veenstra is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cox is aware though and is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veenstra bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cox's guard. Veenstra drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cox manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Veenstra has Cox in his guard. Veenstra escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cox gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Veenstra is trying to control the position but Cox postures up. Veenstra is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Cox frees his head nicely. Oh but Veenstra has switched to an armbar! Cox is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
