PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steven Daly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daly comes into the arena with Avicii Levels Mashup blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk stuffs the takedown.
Hawk scores with a push kick.

Daly clinches.
Daly wants to take the fight to the mat but Hawk manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Hawk manages to break the clinch.
Daly throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hawk's waist but Hawk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Daly off to one side.

Hawk jumps guard but Daly stands there with Hawk around his waist. Hawk gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Daly tries to pull guard but Hawk holds him up against the cage and eventually Daly drops back down to his feet.

Hawk has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Daly avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hawk has Daly pressed against the cage, preventing Daly from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

A frustrated look appears on Daly's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Daly digs a right hand into Hawk's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hawk's gas tank.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Hawk gets underhooks to prevent Daly's takedown attempt.

Daly pulls guard successfully.
Daly pulls Hawk in close to prevent any damage.

Daly tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Hawk is able to avoid easily.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hawk.
Hawk tries to break the clinch but Daly is controlling the position.

Daly drags the fight down to the ground.
Daly manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hawk manages to get himself to full guard.
Daly is stalling in the full guard.

Daly seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hawk for as long as he can get away with.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daly slips nicely into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hawk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daly looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hawkis looking to pass into half guard but Daly pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Daly is in guard.

Daly stands and steps away. Hawk gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hawk decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk wants to take a breather but Daly is having none of it.
Daly is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hawk's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hawk's back!

Daly is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hawk defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Hawk is trying to get back to his feet but Daly has full control of the position and if anything, Hawk has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Can Hawk hold on?! Daly is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
What can Hawk do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Daly shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hawk sprawls well. Hawk wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Daly gets slowly back to his feet.

Daly has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hawk uses from the top position.

Hawk tries to clinch there but Daly circles away.
Hawk misses with a head kick.

Daly closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Daly pulls Hawk into guard.
Hawk stopping the sweep attempt from Daly.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Daly is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steven Daly showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daly, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
