PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sayid Jarrah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randall Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Psycho - 50 Cent. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sayid Jarrah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randall Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jarrah shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Johnson keeping full guard, as Jarrah tries to pass.
Jarrah trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jarrah won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.
Johnson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jarrah wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Johnson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Jarrah sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Johnson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Johnson looks to land a strike but Jarrah avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Johnson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Randall Johnson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Jarrah shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Johnson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jarrah.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jarrah is defended easily by Johnson.
A punch combination from Johnson misses.
Jarrah checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jarrah's guard.
Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Johnson has momentary wrist control but Jarrah slips an elbow through the middle.

Jarrah is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson parries the strikes from Jarrah easily there. Jarrah is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sayid Jarrah will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Jarrah closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Johnson to the mat! Johnson manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson has his hands on Jarrah's head, controlling the position.
Johnson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Jarrah sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Johnson's guard.
Johnson is looking to control Jarrah's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?
Johnson is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Jarrah is staying active.
Johnson is not content to let Jarrah control the position.
Johnson desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Jarrah is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Johnson reverses the position - he's now on top in Jarrah's guard.

Jarrah wants to get back to his feet.
Jarrah moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Jarrah manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jarrah is working for a guillotine from mount but Johnson frees his head quite easily.

Jarrah prevents Johnson from getting the reversal.

Jarrah moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Johnson has worked his arm free - good work by Johnson!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sayid Jarrah overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jarrah unloads with some shots from mount but Johnson bucks and avoids them well.

Jarrah goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Johnson turns into him and now he's in Jarrah's guard.
Jarrah is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jarrah pulls Johnson in close to prevent any damage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Johnson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Jarrah wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Johnson manages to pass to side control.
Johnson is just content to waste time from the top position. Jarrah takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jarrah is on top in guard.
Jarrah tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.

Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jarrah manages to get himself to full guard.

Well Jarrah has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
