PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stephan Tasker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mo Riggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stephan Tasker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mo Riggins!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tasker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Riggins as he jumps to the side.
Nice takedown defense from Riggins. No joy for Tasker on that attempt.
Tasker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephan Tasker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tasker shoots for a takedown but Riggins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Riggins misses with a two punch combination.
Riggins throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


Tasker is rocked!
Mo Riggins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Riggins throws a nice looking combination but Tasker bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Riggins.
Tasker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Riggins misses with a wild combination.
Tasker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Riggins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Riggins tries to clinch up but Tasker circles away and keeps his distance.
Riggins looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Tasker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Riggins circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Riggins showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Tasker.
Horrible takedown by Tasker or perhaps it was just good defense by Riggins which made him look bad.

Riggins shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Riggins wants to control from the top but Tasker keeps moving.

Tasker looking for a guillotine here but Riggins defends easily.
Tasker is trying to control the position but Riggins postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Tasker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Riggins wants to control from the top but Tasker keeps moving.
Riggins wanted to stand there but Tasker had control of the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tasker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mo Riggins dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Tasker moves out of range of the body kick.
Tasker misses with a takedown
and Riggins counters with a flying knee. Nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tasker has his takedown stuffed
and Riggins counters with a head kick. That will keep Tasker thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Riggins throws a push kick but Tasker slaps the foot to one side.

Tasker swats away the attempt to clinch by Riggins.

Oh Tasker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Tasker looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tasker seems to have got his legs back now.

Riggins connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Tasker to the floor! Riggins dives in looking for the finish!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riggins trying to pass the guard but Tasker defending well.

Riggins is just content to waste time from the top position. Tasker takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Tasker wriggles free and stands up.
Riggins is breathing heavily.
Riggins goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tasker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Riggins counters with a nice uppercut.
Riggins misses with a series of wild punches.
Tasker misses with a takedown attempt

and Riggins counters by moving into the clinch.
Riggins working aggressively here.

Tasker breaks from the clinch.
Riggins misses with a double jab.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tasker misses with a takedown attempt
and Riggins counters with a nice uppercut.
Riggins tries for a takedown but Tasker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tasker tries to clinch up.
Tasker looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Riggins is fending him off so far but Tasker persists. Nope, Riggins circles away and we're back to standing.

and Riggins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tasker's guard.

Riggins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mo Riggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Riggins closes the distance looking to clinch
and Riggins takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Riggins throws a half hearted mid kick.
Riggins is looking to clinch but Tasker is avoiding it.
Tasker gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Riggins counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tasker is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Riggins drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Riggins throwing strikes from guard but Tasker blocks nicely.
Riggins controlling from the top position.

Tasker is looking for a triangle here but Riggins uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Riggins is trying to move to mount but Tasker reverses beautifully and ends up in Riggins's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tasker trying to control the position from guard on top but Riggins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Riggins has his hands on Tasker's head, controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Riggins is on top in guard.
Riggins must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tasker had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Riggins is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Tasker Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Riggins's back instead.
Riggins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tasker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Riggins tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Riggins is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Tasker misses with a head shot.
Stephan Tasker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mo Riggins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Riggins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
