Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Kowalczyk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patton is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Marilyn Manson - Born Villain . Michael Patton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

25 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Patton! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalczyk missing with a left hand there. Patton was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Michael Patton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A combination from Patton does no damage. Patton works Kowalczyk's body with a nice hook. Kowalczyk motions for Patton to come forward. Kowalczyk throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Patton throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Patton checks a low kick from Kowalczyk. A jab from Patton finds it's way through Kowalczyk's defenses. Kowalczyk showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Patton.

Patton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kowalczyk was well out of range. Poor timing from Patton. Kowalczyk avoids the head kick by Patton.
Patton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Kowalczyk postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kowalczyk preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kowalczyk trying to control but Patton is working from the bottom. Patton manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Patton clinches up with Kowalczyk and pushes him back against the cage. Kowalczyk lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Patton backwards. Stalling in the clinch from Kowalczyk.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kowalczyk takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kowalczyk gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. Patton is leaning against Kowalczyk and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Kowalczyk lands a left hand that snaps the head of Patton backwards. Kowalczyk wants a takedown but no success here.

Kowalczyk is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Patton can't fight it off and eventually Kowalczyk manages to take the fight to the floor. Patton looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Patton wants to sweep here but Kowalczyk controlling him for the moment. Patton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kowalczyk wants to control from the top but Patton keeps moving. Kowalczyk controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Patton looking to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Patton misses with a shot to the body and Kowalczyk counters with an inside leg kick. Kowalczyk dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Patton. That did some damage! Kowalczyk scores with a hook. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Patton avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Kowalczyk connects with a leg kick. Patton looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Patton with a body punch. A glancing blow. Patton jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Patton gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Patton scores with a jab. Kowalczyk acknowledges it with a nod of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Patton will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kowalczyk works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Michael Patton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Patton throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

"I don't think so" says Patton as he avoids it easily. Patton attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Patton lands a really nice looking cross but Kowalczyk seems unphased.

Michael Patton is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Patton uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kowalczyk has time to react. Patton lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
