PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Gabble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by SandStorm. Wanderlei Silva struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Wanderlei Silva will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wanderlei Silva!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva misses with a takedown
and Gabble counters with a left to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Gabble to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gabble showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Gabble scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Silva striking off his back but it's not causing Gabble any problems.

Silva looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gabble makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Gabble is working Silva over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Gabble tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.

Gabble cracks Silva with a solid left hand.
Silva wants to sweep but no luck.

Gabble drops back looking for a leg! Silva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Silva manages to kick Gabble off! Gabble jumps back into Silva's guard.

Silva throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gabble escapes and throws Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Silva wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Silva seems a little lost for a moment, as Gabble dominates the positioning.

Gabble tries to move into full mount but can't pass Silva's legs.
Silva takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Gabble cracks Silva with a big right hand but Silva just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Gabble's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gabble has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gabble tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gabble has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gabble scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Silva to see if he's OK.
Silva is letting Gabble control him for a moment.
Gabble landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Gabble is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Silva will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Silva seems a little lost for a moment, as Gabble dominates the positioning.
Silva tries to buck Gabble off but Gabble is having none of it.
Silva sneaks back into half guard.
Silva won't allow Gabble to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Gabble closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gabble lands in his opponent's guard.
Silva can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gabble controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dan Gabble wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Gabble feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Silva is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva is trying desperately to improve position.

Gabble lands a big shot there that rocks Silva but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gabble has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Silva's face.
Gabble postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Silva bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Gabble and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dan Gabble!
Dan Gabble seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
