Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Karelin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mihail Murumov! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murumov throws a head kick but Karelin moves out of range.
Karelin blocks a head kick by Murumov.
Murumov throws a head kick that misses. Murumov plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Murumov throws a sloppy head kick and Karelin moves out of range easily. Murumov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Karelin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Murumov darts in trying to clinch and Karelin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Karelin. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Karelin controlling from the top position. Karelin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Murumov for as long as he can get away with.
That's one minute gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Alex Karelin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Murumov darts in trying to clinch and Karelin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Karelin is working for a kimura but Murumov is defending it quite comfortably.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Karelin in particular looking to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Karelin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Murumov wants to get back to his feet. Murumov looks winded! Karelin seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Murumov is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
