The bell rings for round one and we are underway! St Pierre fails with an attempt to clinch.
Brashears manages to get an easy takedown there - catching St Pierre on his heels. He'll look to pass St Pierre's guard now, I'm sure. Brashears postures up in St Pierre's guard and throws a big left but St Pierre blocks it. St Pierre is trying to keep Brashears in close.

I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. We're going to have a standup here because Ryan Brashears wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Brashears looks for a takedown but St Pierre sprawls well. Brashears shoots in and drives through. St Pierre sprawls well. St Pierre has Brashears up against the cage in a clinch.

Brashears closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brashears lands in his opponent's guard. St Pierre is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Brashears wants to sweep but St Pierre has passed to side control! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Brashears is looking for a sweep.
