PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Dowal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sven Bringer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steve Dowal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sven Bringer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bringer tries to keep at a distance but Dowal has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dowal misses with a knee strike.
Dowal has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Bringer after a bit of a struggle.
Dowal has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bringer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bringer goes for a takedown attempt but Dowal pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Dowal stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
No luck for Dowal with that takedown attempt.

Bringer looking to score a takedown here. Dowal is defending well but Bringer drives through and ends up in Dowal's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Dowal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bringer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bringer has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bringer there as he acknowledges the shot.

Dowal shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bringer sprawls well. Bringer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dowal gets slowly back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dowal enables Bringer to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dowal manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Bringer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dowal with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bringer connects with a nice short shot to Dowal's temple.
