PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Diego Brandao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Madness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Madness comes into a darkened arena with his song building. SHOWDOWN kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Diego Brandao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Madness!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madness misses with a body shot

and Brandao counters with a crisp right hand that drops Madness! Brandao lets Madness back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Madness is rocked!


It looks like James Madness has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Madness tries to land a leg kick but Brandao saw it coming and moves away.
Madness is still on wobbly legs! Can Brandao finish him?
Brandao thows a left - swing and a miss!
Brandao throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Madness seems to have recovered his senses.

Madness gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Madness manages to pull guard.
Brandao might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Brandao wants to get up but he can't break Madness's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Brandao wants to stand and escape but instead Madness has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Brandao wants to stand and escape but Madness is having none of it.
Brandao keeping moving, preventing Madness from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Madness content to stall in guard here.

OK we're going to have a standup here. James Madness hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Madness throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brandao sees it coming and avoids it easily.
James Madness seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Madness throws a poor cross that misses
and Brandao counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Madness misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brandao.
Nice uppercut lands for Brandao. That snapped Madness's head back.
Madness throws a big shot that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Madness throws a half hearted mid kick.
Brandao slips under a jab.
Madness misses with a low kick.
Madness swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Brandao counters with a nice right hand that sends Madness toppling to the canvas! Madness scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Brandao finish him?!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Madness throws out a leg kick but Brandao moves out of range and Madness only half commits.

Madness closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brandao quickly recovers to half guard.

Madness is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brandao sees it coming and defends easily.
Brandao knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Madness on the ground.
Brandao wants to get back to his feet.

Madness is working for a submission of some sort.
Madness is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Madness can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Brandao is looking to escape.
Brandao is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Madness controlling the position easily from mount.
It looks like Madness might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Madness thowing shots but they're missing.

Madness throws some wild stikes that Brandao manages to avoid easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Madness controlling from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brandao is trying to stand up.
Madness landing shots from mount.
Madness looking to control and managing it successfully.
Madness thowing shots but they're missing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Brandao is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Madness locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Brandao is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Madness!
During a confident post fight interview, James Madness thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
