PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob McGrady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Samba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGrady comes to the cage accompanied by Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child. Samba has chosen Bezerker by Love Among Freaks as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob McGrady!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Christopher Samba!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samba ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McGrady moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Samba.
Samba rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and McGrady counters with a stiff right hand.
Samba misses with a low kick as McGrady jumps back.
Samba throws a wild body kick that McGrady sees coming a mile off.
Samba throws a jab when McGrady was well out of range.
McGrady ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Samba moves away.
McGrady comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Samba finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Samba misses the shot to the body.
Samba fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Samba checks the leg kick.
Samba goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Samba tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. McGrady manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Samba forces McGrady back against the cage and clinches.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
McGrady blocks a punch to the side of the head.
McGrady is trying to break free.
Samba stops a takedown attempt from McGrady.
Samba throws a head punch that misses.

Samba has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed McGrady clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McGrady rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
McGrady is trying to maintain the position but Samba is very close to passing his half guard.

Samba missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
McGrady wants to improve his position but Samba is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGrady manages to get to full guard.
Samba postures up in McGrady's guard and throws a big left but McGrady blocks it.

McGrady wants to sweep but no luck.

McGrady is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Samba is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because Bob McGrady wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Samba scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McGrady keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Samba checks the leg kick nicely there.
Christopher Samba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Samba moves out of range as McGrady strikes.
McGrady changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Samba tries to avoid it but McGrady manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Samba to the ground. Samba escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McGrady feints and then cracks Samba's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Samba down.
Samba lands a nice leg kick that just misses McGrady's sensitive parts.
McGrady blocks the body kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Samba shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGrady as he avoids it easily.
Samba tries a low kick but McGrady avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christopher Samba dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and McGrady counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
McGrady throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A slapping body kick lands there for Samba.
McGrady blocks a leg kick.

Samba forces McGrady back against the cage and clinches.
McGrady is looking to take this one to the mat.
McGrady wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Samba cracks McGrady with a nice body shot.
Samba is pushing McGrady up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Samba lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

McGrady is looking to take this one to the mat.
Samba is trying to stall.
The referee calls for Samba to work.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
McGrady tries to work over Samba's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Samba lands with a right to the head.
A frustrated look appears on McGrady's face as he tries to break the clinch.

McGrady tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Samba just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob McGrady. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Samba pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Samba dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
McGrady lands with a hook. Samba tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

McGrady uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Samba.
Decent striking displayed by Samba there.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Samba. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Samba takes a swing at McGrady's ribcage but misses.
Samba lands with a shot to the body.
Samba throws a leg kick which misses McGrady's front leg but catches the back leg as McGrady tries to avoid it.
Samba looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
McGrady walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Samba throws a front kick that sends McGrady stumbling back into the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and McGrady counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Samba scores with a shot to the body.

Samba shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Samba showed some decent athleticism there.
McGrady blocking the ground and pound attempt from Samba.
Samba wants to free his trapped foot but McGrady is holding on for dear life with his legs.
McGrady is pressing down on Samba's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Samba trying to control but McGrady is working from the bottom.

Samba pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGrady is keeping the position for now.

McGrady bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Samba's guard.
McGrady postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Samba looking to hit a scissor sweep but McGrady is one step ahead there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGrady trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Samba is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Samba looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McGrady with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christopher Samba showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! McGrady's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGrady sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

and McGrady counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Samba!

McGrady thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Samba bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Samba trying to control the position from guard on top but McGrady is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Samba is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Samba throws an elbow that misses. McGrady uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Samba's guard. Nice move by McGrady!
Samba is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McGrady pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Samba is keeping the position for now.

Christopher Samba is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Christopher Samba.
Samba throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Bob McGrady has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McGrady throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Samba throws a solid leg kick but McGrady takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Samba.
Samba connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Samba. McGrady does a little dance to reset his feet.
McGrady shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Samba but Samba pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Samba getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Samba throws a looping overhand right but McGrady ducks down to avoid it.
Samba scores with the left hand. McGrady knows he should have avoided that one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

McGrady gets caught napping as Samba dives in and scores a takedown. McGrady manages to retain guard.
Christopher Samba has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McGrady thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Christopher Samba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Samba has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Christopher Samba misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
