PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Lonely road of faith. Jones has chosen Hi my name is as his entrance music. Jon Jones struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 266.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jackson enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jackson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Jackson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jackson pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

Jackson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jones throwing strikes from guard but Jackson blocks nicely.

Jones gets to his feet - Jackson follows without any prompting.
Jackson looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
Jackson stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Jackson throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Jones connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jackson. Jackson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Jackson throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jones lands with a nice combination. Jackson backs away looking to recover.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jackson on his heels. He'll look to pass Jackson's guard now, I'm sure.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jackson lands with a straight right. Jones didn't see that one coming.


It looks like Jon Jones has been cut.

Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jackson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jackson wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.
Jones is stalling here.

Jackson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones misses with a straight left.
Jackson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jackson throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
A combination from Jackson does no damage.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones throwing strikes but Jackson manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Jackson wants to stand but Jones has his arm trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Jackson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Jones sneaks out the side door and pushes Jackson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Jackson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Jones stands up and beckons Jackson to join him on the feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jones instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jon Jones's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jackson throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jackson is defended easily by Jones.
Jackson misses with a series of wild punches.
Jackson misses with a two punch combination.
Jackson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Jackson. Those never looked like landing.

Jones feints and as Jackson raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Jones passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jackson looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
Jackson moves out of range of the strikes.
Jackson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jackson.
Jackson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jackson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jackson off to one side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones pushes Jackson up against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson tries to break the clinch but Jones is controlling the position.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones stands up from half guard.

Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jackson is trying to force a seperation but Jones has the dominant position.

Jones breaks from the clinch.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jackson.
Jones uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jackson.

Jackson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jackson misses with a double jab

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Jackson fights it but they end up in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones stays in close to Jackson's body and controls the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jones clinches with his opponent.

Jones has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jackson regains guard immediately.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Jon Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Jackson throws a combination that misses

and Jones counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jackson's guard now.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jackson, up you get!

Jones drives through with a takedown into Jackson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Jackson misses with a few strikes there.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jackson throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
A combination from Jackson does no damage.
Jackson throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jackson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Jones decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jackson to his feet.
Jackson throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jones working the head and body with strikes.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Jones fails to land the takedown.

Jackson shoots in and bounces Jones off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Jackson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jackson wants to stand but Jones has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jackson!

Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jackson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones.
Jackson lands a two punch combo.

Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Jackson's guard.
Jones forces his way into half guard.
Jones slows the pace down in half guard.
Jim Jackson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones winds up and cracks Jackson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jon Jones opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
