Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rigo Avila! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tom Thompson! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thompson darts in trying to clinch so Avila counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Avila trying to control the position from guard on top but Thompson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Avila has gone for a leg lock! Thompson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Avila's guard. Avila has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thompson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avila is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thompson defends well. Thompson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Avila wants to sweep here but Thompson controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avila is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thompson is aware though and is defending well. Avila is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tom Thompson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Thompson closes the distance but Avila moves to the side and Avila counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Avila. Avila trying to control but Thompson is working from the bottom. Avila trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thompson keeping moving, preventing Avila from controlling successfully. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Avila looking to pass the guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Rigo Avila wasn't doing enough on the ground. Thompson tries to clinch but fails miserably and Avila counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Thompson! Avila is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Avila!
