Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Redzy Brice! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jhonny Mendez! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A solid body kick from Mendez. Mendez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Brice loads up on a big right hand but Mendez slips the punch. Mendez throws a series of punches but Brice avoids them all with ease. Brice shoots in and drives through. Mendez sprawls well. Mendez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. No joy there for Mendez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendez misses with a low kick as Brice jumps back. Mendez tries a head kick but it misses.
Brice tries to clinch up but Mendez circles away and keeps his distance. Brice throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mendez throws a nice looking combination but Brice bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Mendez throws a series of punches but Brice moves out of range. Mendez swinging wildly here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Brice shoots in and bounces Mendez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mendez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Brice forces his way into half guard. Mendez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brice. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mendez tries to kick Brice off but Brice keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Brice is looking for a kimura but Mendez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brice to get the leverage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brice is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brice seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Mendez is trying to stand back up but Brice is controlling him
Brice stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Brice shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mendez is trying to defend but Brice finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Brice takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Mendez is trying to stand back up but Brice is controlling him

The ref stands the fighters back up because Redzy Brice just wasn't active enough. Mendez misses with a series of wild punches.
Mendez throws a right and a left that both miss. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Brice misses with a double jab.

Brice wants to clinch up but Mendez keeps it at a distance. Brice shoots for a takedown but Mendez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Brice avoids the head kick by Mendez.

Mendez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mendez gets tackled into the cage by Brice. Brice maintains the clinch. Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Brice throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mendez misses with a body kick. Mendez closes the distance and lands a one-two. Brice tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brice fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Redzy Brice. That's going to take a lot out of him. No joy there for Mendez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brice takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Brice on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Brice scores with a takedown into Mendez's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Brice prevents Mendez from getting back to his feet. Brice trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brice not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Brice stands and throws Mendez's legs to the side, diving into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Brice stands up and beckons Mendez to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mendez misses with a double jab.
Mendez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brice has closed the distance and engaged Mendez in a clinch.
Mendez is trying to break the clinch but Brice is controlling him. Brice pulls guard effortlessly. Brice is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mendez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Mendez wants to stand and escape but instead Brice has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Mendez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brice is controlling him. Mendez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Brice manages to pass to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez pushes Brice off looking to stand but Brice dives back in and keeps control.
Brice lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Brice takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Brice working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Brice controlling the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Redzy Brice will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. Brice lands a couple of digs. Brice trying to control but Mendez is working from the bottom. Brice advances position into side control! Brice is looking to take a break and control but Mendez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Brice happy to just control the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendez tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Mendez trying desperately to get to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Brice has taken his back! Mendez preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Brice. Mendez is trying to get back to his feet but Brice has full control of the position and if anything, Mendez has just worked his way into a worse spot. Brice is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Mendez won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Brice off his unconscious opponent!
