PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Josh Daigle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Maggot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daigle comes to the cage accompanied by The State of Massachusetts -- Dropkick Murphys. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Daigle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Maggot!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maggot fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Daigle, pushing him back against the cage.

Maggot manages to break the clinch.
Daigle stuffs the takedown.

Maggot gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Daigle trying to control the position from guard on top but Maggot is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maggot tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Maggot keeping moving, preventing Daigle from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maggot is on top in guard.
Maggot stops Daigle from standing up.

Daigle throws his legs up looking for a submission but Maggot uses it to pass to side control.
Maggot postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Daigle is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Maggot is controlling him well.

Maggot lands a heavy elbow.

Daigle tries to lock up and control but Maggot gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Maggot can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Daigle is looking to escape.
Daigle is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Maggot lands a big shot there that rocks Daigle but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Daigle is wriggling around trying to escape.
Maggot thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Maggot has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Maggot connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Daigle is in a horrible position here. Maggot smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Daigle swats away the attempt to clinch by Maggot.
Daigle keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Maggot shoots in but Daigle avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Daigle looks to land a right hand but Maggot moved out of range.
Daigle moves in looking to clinch but Maggot pushes him off.
Maggot fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Maggot's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Maggot duly obliges.

Josh Daigle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Maggot.
Nice takedown defense from Daigle. No joy for Maggot on that attempt.
Daigle throws a left and a right that both miss
and Maggot makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Daigle really felt that one!
Daigle throws a series of punches but Maggot moves out of range.

so Daigle counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Maggot working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Daigle has passed into half guard!

Maggot manages to escape and get back to his feet!

and Daigle counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Maggot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Maggot clinches up with Daigle and pushes him back against the cage.
Daigle tries to break the clinch but Maggot is controlling the position.
Daigle can't get the takedown.

Maggot tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Daigle just stands there and leans against the cage.
Maggot drops down looking for an ankle pick but Daigle pulls his leg out and moves away.
Maggot dodges the punch combination from Daigle.
Some wild striking there from Daigle.
Daigle stuffs the takedown attempt from Maggot. Maggot gets slowly back to his feet.
Maggot shoots in and drives through. Daigle sprawls well.
Daigle throws a sloppy head kick and Maggot moves out of range easily.
Maggot throws a right hand that Daigle ducks under and follows up with a left that Daigle also avoids with ease.

and Maggot counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Maggot tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Daigle smiles and moves away.

and Maggot counters with a slapping leg kick.

Daigle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Maggot parries the strikes from Daigle easily there. Daigle is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Maggot to escape.
Daigle in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Maggot manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Daigle moves into full guard.
Daigle looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maggot is one step ahead there.

Daigle is looking for a triangle but Maggot pushes his legs off easily.

Maggot is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Daigle is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Daigle has escaped and now he's on top!
Daigle not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maggot is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Daigle is controlling him.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Maggot lands a nice looking body kick.
Maggot bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Daigle's head.

Daigle needs to keep his hands up - Maggot had a free shot at his head there.

You can see the frustration on Maggot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Maggot is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Josh Daigle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Maggot tries to escape but Daigle is in control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Daigle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Daigle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Maggot is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Maggot misses with a takedown attempt - Daigle sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Daigle is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Daigle lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maggot tries to clinch there but Daigle circles away.
Daigle walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Maggot checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Daigle takes the fight into the clinch.

Maggot jumps guard.
Maggot lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Daigle!
Maggot is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Daigle can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Maggot blocks Daigle's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Maggot trying to control but Daigle is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Daigle is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Josh Daigle.
I think Daigle has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
