2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rico Ferzeta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frank Romo! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ferzeta tries to clinch but Romo is having none of it. Romo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ferzeta. Ferzeta shoots in for a takedown but Romo shows good takedown defense. Ferzeta slips a jab and a cross from Romo.
Frank Romo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Romo throws a right and a left that both miss. Romo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ferzeta. Romo looks for the body kick but Ferzeta saw that one coming. Romo throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Romo throws a series of punches but Ferzeta moves out of range. Ferzeta scores with a hook.

Ferzeta throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Romo throws a chopping leg kick but Ferzeta manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Romo tries to clinch up. Romo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ferzeta shoots in for a double leg but Romo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rico Ferzeta. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sloppy strikes from Romo. Those never looked like landing. Ferzeta will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ferzeta fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Romo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Ferzeta checks a leg kick. Ferzeta has a takedown stuffed. Romo swinging wildly here.

and Ferzeta makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Ferzeta tries to clinch but Romo is having none of it. Romo throws a lazy right hand but Ferzeta sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ferzeta misses with a looping right. A decent looking cross lands there for Ferzeta. Ferzeta swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A punch combination from Romo misses. Romo throws a nice looking combination but Ferzeta bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Romo throws a one two combo.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Danga de danga de dang - Ferzeta scores with a four punch combination! Ferzeta closes this distance looking for a takedown but Romo circles away. Ferzeta tries for a takedown but Romo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Some wild striking there from Romo.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ferzeta looks to land a combination but Romo avoids it well. Ferzeta misses with the combination.
A slow jab from Romo misses its intended target. Ferzeta could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Romo misses with the combination.

Ferzeta shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Romo pinned against the cage. Romo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Romo throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ferzeta misses with an uppercut. Romo throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Romo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Ferzeta tries to clinch up but Romo circles away and keeps his distance. Ferzeta moves into the clinch. Romo is breathing heavily.

Ferzeta tries to reverse the position but Romo maintains control. Romo misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Ferzeta is looking to improve his position but Romo isn't that keen on the idea. Ferzeta is working hard here to advance position. Ferzeta is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Frank Romo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ferzeta is squirming around, avoiding Romo's attempts to control the action. Romo is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ferzeta can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rico Ferzeta. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ferzeta, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
