The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Mendonca looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mendonca fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mendonca.
Mendonca scores with a leg kick.
Buford closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mendonca's guard.
Mendonca escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Buford gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Buford works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendonca can do anything to dispel that myth.
Buford is taking a breather. Mendonca says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mendonca scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Buford manages to mount him!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendonca is trying to reverse the position but instead Buford has taken his back - oops!
Mendonca wants to escape the position.
Mendonca looking very determined here, making life difficult for Buford.
Buford is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Mendonca with him. Mendonca is trying to defend but Buford has an arm under the chin now! Mendonca grimaces and is forced to tap out!
