PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johhny Stan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ribeiro kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Flux Pavilion – I Can't Stop . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcelo Ribeiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johhny Stan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stan's head backwards.
Stan throws a half hearted mid kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ribeiro checks a leg kick.
Ribeiro uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stan.
Stan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ribeiro showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Stan.

Ribeiro closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stan quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Stan moves into full guard.
Ribeiro trying to control the position from guard on top but Stan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stan keeping moving, preventing Ribeiro from controlling successfully.

Ribeiro throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ribeiro drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Stan dives on top into guard.
Stan wants to control from the top but Ribeiro keeps moving.
Stan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ribeiro kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Stan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ribeiro swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Stan changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but Stan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Stan throws a combination that misses
and Ribeiro counters with a straight right hand.

Ribeiro closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ribeiro lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ribeiro works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Ribeiro seems to be working for a kimura but Stan defends the submission attempt.

Stan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Stan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ribeiro defends well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ribeiro drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ribeiro jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stan throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Ribeiro avoids the head kick by Stan.
Horrible takedown by Ribeiro or perhaps it was just good defense by Stan which made him look bad.

Johhny Stan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stan throws a sloppy head kick and Ribeiro moves out of range easily.

Ribeiro closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ribeiro connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Stan some visible discomfort.

Ribeiro postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stan looks a forlorn figure.

Stan is squirming around, avoiding Ribeiro's attempts to control the action.
Stan tries to hold on but Ribeiro pushes him away.

Ribeiro wants to finish this one by submission but Stan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ribeiro.

Ribeiro has an Americana. Stan didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Ribeiro is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Ribeiro hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
