Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, TJ Welsh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Watermelon! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watermelon leaves Welsh with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Welsh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Welsh wants it to stay on the feet. Welsh moves into the clinch. Welsh manages to pull guard.
Watermelon trying to control the position from guard on top but Welsh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Watermelon tries to free his leg and advance position but Welsh is retaining full guard. Watermelon is looking to work some ground and pound but Welsh has wrist control. Welsh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Welsh controls Watermelon momentarily but Watermelon frees himself. Watermelon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Watermelon looking to score a takedown here. Welsh is defending well but Watermelon drives through and ends up in Welsh's guard. Watermelon trying to move into half guard but instead Welsh has managed to sweep! Welsh looking to sit in guard and control but Watermelon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Watermelon wants to control from the top but Welsh keeps moving. Welsh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Welsh has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Watermelon off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Welsh tries to clinch up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Welsh shoots in for a double leg but Watermelon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Welsh feints and as Watermelon raises his hands in defense, Welsh changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Watermelon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Watermelon is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Welsh has his hands clasped together but Watermelon extends an breaks Welsh's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Watermelon.
